Thank Goodness for Cricket!
Being in the non-cricket side of events it is rare that I say that. Oddly cricket is usually something that my team have to work round, making sure that our “side” of the business sits snuggly around the raison d’être for The Kia Oval. Cricket is our more important big brother that gives me moments to sulk in the corner when we are, understandably, side-lined.
But that has all changed! Hurrah for Cricket! Cricket has allowed us to run some internal events and bring us slowly out of our hibernation.
Last week we had our internal AGM and opened up our Roof Terrace to our members; successfully hosting hybrid events and a bar for over 500 people across 5 days to watch England V West Indies on our TVs. This was exactly what we needed and the perfect opportunity to put our COVID-19 practices into action – a resounding success.
It gave my team, and our operations, a welcomed chance to brush off the cobwebs and get stuck in; even George, our Head of Corporate Sales did his stint behind the bar.
If last week was anything to go by the reopening of events industry should happen, in earnest, sooner rather than later. Not to rush people back into the old normal, but to give confidence back to the people in a safe and controlled environment. May we hold many more successful events moving forward.
Long Live Cricket! and Long Live the Events Industry!
